An art deco building from 1933
The hotel opened in 1933 and was designed by the architect Oliver Hill: a curved building with its facade facing the sea and a central circular tower housing the entrance and the spiral staircase. The sculptor Eric Gill made the seahorses on the facade and the Neptune and Triton medallion above the staircase, and Eric Ravilious painted the murals inside. It has been a Grade II* listed building since 1976.
